The overall monthly income is determined by taking the average of the two lowest gross monthly incomes available to the domestic community during a reference period of three months preceding the month in which the application for cost-of-living benefit and supplements is submitted.
The professional income of a child under the age of thirty, up to the amount of the maximum inclusion allowance, is not taken into account when determining the income of the domestic community.
Persons who have already received the cost-of-living benefit / energy allowance will receive a pre-filled form from the FNS at the end of the year.
Amount of the cost-of-living benefit for 2026
The amount of the benefit is determined on the basis of the applicant's household, and corresponds to:
- EUR 1,817 for a single person
- EUR 2,272 for a 2 person household
- EUR 2,727 for a 3 person household
- EUR 3,182 for a 4 person household
- EUR 3,637 for a 5 or more person household

Reduced cost-of-living benefit
Applicants whose income exceeds the allocation threshold may receive a reduced cost-of-living benefit.
The amount of this benefit corresponds to the difference between:
- the amount of the cost-of-living benefit that would normally be paid to an applicant in a comparable situation;
- the portion of the annual income which exceeds the total annual income threshold.

The amount of the allowance is determined on the basis of the applicant's household, and corresponds to:
- EUR 600 for a single person;
- EUR 750 for a 2 person household;
- EUR 900 for a 3 person household;
- EUR 1.050 for a 4 person household;
- EUR 1.200 for a 5 or more person household.

Financial assistance for seniors 2026
People who are entitled to a cost-of-living allowance and/or an energy allowance, who receive an old-age or survivor's pension, or who are aged 65 or over, are also entitled to financial assistance for seniors.
For persons receiving the cost-of-living allowance, financial assistance for seniors is set at:
- €2,400 for a single person;
- €1,200 for each additional person.
For persons receiving the energy allowance without receiving the cost-of-living allowance, financial assistance for seniors is set at:
- €1,200 for a single person;
- €600 for each additional person.
For people who receive the reduced energy allowance, financial assistance for seniors is set at:
- €600 for a single person;
- €300 for each additional person.
